The thermostat should be set to whatever temperature feels the most comfortable to you. For most people, the comfort range is between 66-76° Farenheit.

How often should I replace my furnace filter?
It depends on the type of filter you have. If you have a 1” filter you should replace it once every month, and the 5” media filter should be replaced once every 6 months to 1 year.

Do I need to have maintenance performed on my equipment?
The equipment manufacturer recommends yearly maintenance be performed on the equipment.

What is the average life of a furnace?
10 to 15 years on an entry level product, 15 to 20 years on a premium product.

What is the average life of a air conditioning unit?

What is the difference between Freon (R-22) and Puron (R-410A)?
Freon (R-22) is harmful to the atmosphere and units containing this refrigerant will no longer be sold or manufactured as of January 1, 2010. Puron (R-410A) is safe for ozone and the environment and will be the only refrigerant used in new equipment manufactured as of January 1, 2010.

How far back should I set my thermostat at night?
Maximum temperature setback should be 8 degrees.

What is variable speed?
Variable speed is a blower that doesn’t have the restriction of being limited to 3 predetermined speeds. The motor is constantly changing speeds during the operation of the unit.

How does a 2-stage air conditioner work?
The air conditioner will start in the 1st stage of cooling, dehumidifying the air and making the home comfortable. The unit will kick into the 2nd stage of cooling when the conditions exceed the 1st stage’s ability to make the home comfortable. 

Should I cover my air conditioner in the winter?
 It is not necessary to cover your air conditioner in the winter, but if you have a problem with leaves, we suggest just putting on a board with a brick covering the top—just to keep the leaves out.

Should I turn off the circuit breaker to my air conditioner in the winter months?
It is not required that you turn your circuit  breaker off in the winter, but if you do turn it off, you should make sure to turn the breaker on 24 hours prior to using the air conditioner.

How does a 2-stage furnace work?
The way a 2-stage furnace functions is based upon a call for heat. The unit will run in the 1st stage of heating to maintain the desired level of comfort and when needed, it will kick into the 2nd stage of heat to satisfy the thermostat and maintain the comfort levels on days of extreme cold.

What are the benefits of yearly maintenance on my equipment?
Maintenance will make sure that your equipment is operating at its peak efficiency and could also prevent breakdowns during normal operation.

Should I put a screen over my PVC pipes on the outside of the home?
No, a screen shouldn’t be put over your PVC pipes because it could cause the furnace not to operate due to the screen being covered with ice.
